Re-production of HAXAN

"Perth-based experimental outfit Masonik present a live score for infamous 1922 Danish occult classic Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages. Benjamin Christensen’s legendary film uses a series of dramatic vignettes to conflate the persecution suffered by witches of the Middle Ages with the hysteria of turn-of-the-century psychiatric patients. Masonik will present an edited version of this darkly humourous film, pairing Christensen’s visually majestic production with their own witches cauldron of sonic armoury.
Fusing ambient soundscapes with global beatsmithery and dubbed-out audio excursions, Masonik utilise disparate instrumentation to meld a soundworld that is truly immersive and exploratory, and will provide a gripping alternate score for this beautiful and infamous classic of early cinema."

In the Renaissance, the "Langue Verte" also known as the "language of the birds" and "Green Language" was considered a secret visual and literary language where Art formed the key to perfect knowledge. Exemplified by the work of Jean Julien Fulcanelli, Michael Maier, and Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, the Lange Verte was the secret language of the Troubadours in medieval France, connected with the Tarot, and based on symbolism drawn from antiquity.
This exhibition draws together a range of Australian and international contemporary artists who reinterpret the concept of transformation across the media of film, sound, painting, drawing, printmaking and installation.
We are proud to present the artwork of J. Daniel Gunther (USA) and Harvey Bialy (USA) to Australian audiences for the very first time.
